Worship Team Spotlight

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Every so often we like to highlight a volunteer leader.  We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know Ryan Greenwood as much as we have.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Renee and I have been married for 8 years. We have 3 kids, Ayden (6), Reese (3), Joshua (7 months). We both have our own businesses. Renee is a Jeweler for Premier Designs Jewelry, which is a biblically-based company and seeks to enrich the lives of the women she is able to serve. I am an independent representative for Primerica Financial Services. I also seek to serve families by helping them take control of their finances and begin building toward their own financial goals. We both see our businesses as a means of ministry outside the church walls. We have been attending Compass for a little over 2 years now.

What is your role on the Worship Team

I lead the team on the 2nd Sunday of the month. That means I plan out the set list, enter it into planning center online, conduct rehearsal and lead the team on Sunday for both services.

What impact has your involvement on the Worship Team had in your life?

I’ve lead worship for several churches and ministries for the past 10 years. I always enjoy playing my guitar and singing. It’s great being able to be a catalyst for others to engage God. Leading the team once a month at Compass has also been great because I am filling a need and serving the Ross family as Jeremy has a full plate between his family, business and ministry responsibilities.

What would you like others to know about what the Worship Team does and how they can get involved?

Compass is blessed with many great musicians and vocalists. Having 3 or 4 full teams to rotate is great, but certainly doesn’t mean we are FULL. We could always use more resources in the way of singers, guitarists, vocalists, audio/visual techs, percussionists, violinists, pianists, artists, painters, sculptors, etc. The more ways we can include the gifts of the people God has brought to Compass the better.

Favorite Verse?

I don’t have any one favorite verse, but the one that comes to mind right now as I think about it is Psalm 119:72, “The Law from Your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.”

Lux Communitites Update

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

November 2011

For many people the celebration of Thanksgiving marks a time of reflection on the things we are thankful for. This year, as we celebrated Thanksgiving, I was reminded of the powerful prayer and financial support you have offered us and our church planting efforts. Thank you for your interest in what is happening in our lives and ministry. Thank you for partnering with us to make this ministry possible. Lastly, thank you for your tremendous generosity!

After five weeks of meeting, it is becoming increasingly apparent that our first Lux Community Group is ready to multiply. We have been meeting in our home and have regularly been maxing out the capacity. We have split into 2 separate discussion groups as a way to prepare Dan, our next leader, for our target of January to multiply.

Our community groups meet together to practice hospitality, have spiritual conversations and serve the people of our neighborhoods and city. This past month we participated in Operation Christmas Child, had two different spiritual conversations from a study called “Gospel Centered Life”, and had a dinner party/game night.

Our spiritual conversations have been a real highlight. We have been interacting with the idea that the gospel informs and changes our daily lives. It’s not something we graduate from after we become Christians. The gospel is something we constantly need to be reminded of and live in light of.

Prayer/Praise Requests:

  • Praise for people we are already meeting in our new neighborhoods.
  • Praise for the number of people we are regularly connecting with.
  • Pray for discernment on the timing of multiplying our community group.
  • Pray for ongoing opportunities to build relationships with people in our new neighborhood.
  • Pray for protection in the spiritual battle.
  • Pray for the Gregory’s to continue to settle in and be healthy through the winter months.
  • Pray for the people of Seattle that we will impact.
  • Pray for the ongoing development of the church planting team for Lux Communities.
  • Pray for those who are trying to move into the neighborhood to be a part of Lux Communities.
